The Vuarnet brand was founded in 1960 after French skier Jean Vuarnet won the gold medal for downhill skiing at the 1960 Olympic Games. Vuarnet won his medal while wearing a pair of sunglasses provided to the French ski team by Joseph Hatchiguian and Roger Pouilloux. Hatchiguian and Pouilloux teamed up with Jean Vuarnet to create a brand that showcased the amazing lens they invented. It was then when Vuarnet Sunglasses was born.
The lens they designed was exceptional in its innovation. It was ideal for outdoor sportsmen because it combined various tints that enabled them to see in bright sunlight without being overwhelmed by the sun. What's more is that the lens, called Skilynx, also increased luminosity in darker weather. Vuarnet's growth and success allowed the company to create fashionable designs and new lens technology. Vuarnet Sunglasses gained international recognition in 1984 when it sponsored the Los Angeles Olympics.
