If you thought that U2 dressing up in drag for the "One" video was as weird as they were gonna get, you were wrong, my friend. "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" previewed this Sunday at the Great White Way as a Spider-Man musical, with the original soundtrack written by U2′s Bono and the Edge.
Though the actual production isn't set to hit the stage until 1/11/11, the preview was intended to give the media a little taste and to work out the kinks. According to witnesses, the kinks were many, but that's to be expected for a first time run of a $65 million, which is the most expensive production in Broadway history. Apparently, the musical has also been delayed several times due to technical difficulties.
Despite the huge gap in the likenesses between Spider-Man, U2 and Broadway, ever-sunglass clad Bono told MTV News, "There are lots of similarities. He grew up in Queens. We grew up on the north side of Dublin - fairly humble origins. He falls in love with the girl next door. I married the girl next door. He starts to put on a silly costume … yes." ~ Carson Barker
