Prescription Lens Guide: What Lenses Will Work Best for My Eyeglasses?

At FramesDirect.com, you can build your eyeglasses exactly the way you want and need them.

We offer a wide range of prescription lenses, including single vision lenses, bifocals, progressive lenses and specialty lenses like trifocals, computer lenses, safety glasses and reading glasses.

Owned by Essilor, the world's largest lens company, FramesDirect.com offers the best lenses available. Fit your frames with one of these types of lenses and get a clear perspective on life:

Single Vision Prescription Lenses

Designed for most wearers, these lenses are usually used to correct nearsightedness or farsightedness, but not both. Single vision lenses also correct astigmatism, and they are used for reading glasses as well.

Bifocal Lenses

Bifocal lenses offer visual correction both at near and far distances. These are a popular choice for people who need to add readers to their prescription, as the top of the lens is created for distance and the lower part for close-up work. The fields are divided by a visible line. Shop bifocal frames now.

Progressive Lenses

Offering the most natural type of vision correction, progressive lenses provide a smooth transition from distance to close vision, and everything in between. The lens increases in power from top to bottom, resulting in a smooth visual transition. A frequent alternative to bifocals, progressive lenses have no visible dividing line. First-time wearers may require a little adjustment time as the eyes become used to changes in peripheral vision, but once the adjustment is made, progressive lenses are typically preferred over bifocal lenses. Specialty Lenses

While we gladly offer the following types of specialty lenses, you may not see all these options on the site. To order specialty lenses such as trifocals or other types, contact our opticians at (800) 248-9427 or add a comment during the checkout process.

Trifocal Lenses

Trifocals improve vision at near, far and middle distances. Like bifocals, the top of the lens provides distance vision and the lower section corrects near vision. Trifocals, however, contain a third section between the upper and lower portions that allows clearer vision from an intermediate distance. Not available on the site. Please call one of our opticians to assist you - (800) 248-9427

Computer Lenses

Computer glasses curtail the unpleasant symptoms of eye strain due to staring at the screen, including headaches, light sensitivity and more. Computer lenses usually contain a slight magnification, anti-reflective coating and either a blue light filter or high-energy visible light (HEV).

Safety Lenses

To help prevent work injuries, some employers require impact-, flammability-resistant safety glasses that are compliant with industry standards. FramesDirect.com carries durable non-prescription and prescription safety glasses designed protect the eyes from work and sports hazards. The safety glasses can contain single vision, bifocal and progressive lenses.

Reading Glasses

Due to the weakening of the eye muscles, most people over 40 eventually need reading glasses. If this is the only correction needed, single vision lenses are appropriate. These lenses can be added to most any frame on FramesDirect.com.
