Cazal eyeglasses were a defining part of the fashion sense of artists like Public Enemy, N.W.A. and Run D.M.C., the of hip-hop legends of the 1980's. Designer Cari Zalloni launched Cazal in 1975 and, just like the pioneers of hip-hop, he blazed his own path, creating a style the world had never seen before. In the middle of a minimalist movement, Zalloni swam against the stream, crafting eyeglasses that can only be referred to as "maximalist" — he would dip them in pure gold, forge them out of titanium and even add accents in genuine leather. His designs became legendary; some of his originals still go for thousands of dollars to collectors.
