The actual vision test needs to be done on a smartphone. However, the eligibility check and results submission can also be done on a desktop.
It’s a real vision test and your results are reviewed by a Licensed Optometrist in your state. If appropriate, they’ll issue you a valid prescription you can use to buy glasses anywhere in the United States. However, it does not take the place of a regular comprehensive vision test.
There are certain age, location, and vision health requirements that need to be met before taking the vision test. In order to be eligible, you must:
When your prescription has expired or when it’s about to expire. Of course, the tool can also be used in any other moment you want to renew your eye prescription online, as long as you’re still eligible.
You will need a smartphone, mirror, tape measure, ID card or something similar (only required for Android devices), wearing your current contact lenses or eyeglasses, and 5 feet of space.
Ensure you're in a well-lit, quiet space and there should be a mirror available with at least 5 feet of space in front of it.
Absolutely! For every online eye prescription renewal, a Licensed Optometrist carefully reviews your test results and data.
The test works in 4 simple steps:
To renew your eye prescription online, you need to wear your current glasses as you’ll be asked to read some letters on a digital eye chart. If you are out of contacts or wish to renew a prescription for which you don’t have glasses available, we recommend you visit a local eye care provider. You can use the Doctor Locator tool on our website to find one close to you.
That’s what our online vision assessment is here for! After taking the exam, a Licensed Optometrist will review your results and provide an online eye prescription renewal (if successful).
The RX Renewal tool needs the prior prescription. Contact your prescribing Licensed Optometrist for a copy and come back to complete your online vision assessment.
If your online eye prescription renewal is successful and a new prescription is provided, you can immediately place a new order or confirm a pending order that was awaiting a new prescription.
Your brand new prescription can be retrieved in your My Account section, under My Prescription.
