Two young men, Gene Montesano and Barry Perlman, opened their first store together—Four Way Street—in the 1970s, specializing in distressed jeans. In 1978 Montesano moved to L.A. to work in the fashion industry. Following a number of separate ventures—during that time Montesano also co-founded the label Bongo—the two men rekindled their partnership, and in 1990 the Lucky Brand was formed.
