glasses tax deduction

Are Glasses Tax Deductible?

Glasses are a medical expense.

Prescription glasses ARE tax deductible IF you itemize your deductions. Medical care expenses for you, your spouse, and dependents should be reported on Schedule A of your 1040. Prescription glasses, contact lenses, and even reading glasses, and contact lens solutions are qualified medical expenses. However, if you are going to claim them, you must itemize ALL your medical expenses and the total must exceed 10% of your adjusted gross income for the year.

Remember to keep receipts of any medical expenses. If you decide to itemize your deductions, you may consider consulting a certified tax professional.
